What! Newsweek only looked at the total number of students who sat for the SATs or the IB exam. That is the focus for Bellevue SD but not for Seattle or most other districts. It is like keeping score with totally different standards. And there are soooooo many other holes in Nickel's comments. I wonder what his stance will be when Seattle SD's budget blows up. Either Seattle SD was overblowing their budget woos or this is going to get much worse.

Nickels criticized the low level of academic achievement in Seattle schools, noting that three Bellevue schools appeared in Newsweek magazine's list of the top 100 high schools in the country. Yet Seattle's highest-rated school was Garfield, which ranked 431st.

"Bellevue schools are in the same state; they receive the same amount of money per student," Nickels said.

He noted that Seattle voters have generously approved several school levies.
