How Full is Your Bucket?

Five Days of Bucket Filling

Try this at work, school, or home one week. Be sure to keep your eyes open to the positive

responses around you – and within yourself!

Day 1: Refl ect back on times others fi lled your bucket. Try to remember as many as possible.

Remember the smiles, compliments, and your pleasant surprise. Replay the spoken words. Reread

past notes and e-mails, or rediscover unexpected gifts. Relive. Can you let one of those

people know that you still remember their positive impact today?

Day 2: Think about whom you will or are likely to encounter today. What positive thing do you

remember about your last interaction with them? How can you communicate your positive

memory to them – directly or indirectly? How can you fi ll their bucket today, even if it is the

fi rst time you are meeting them?

Day 3: Practice smiling at every person you encounter today. How does it affect them? What kind of

effect does it have on your own outlook and attitude? Don’t limit this practice to people you

know. How can you fifi ll a stranger’s bucket today with a positive reaction toward them?

Day 4: Who made the greatest impact on your life? Who do you assume knows how important they are

in your life? Let them know. (Don’t worry about getting emotional.) You are a creating a Day 1

(above) memory for someone else.

Day 5: Give someone a small, unexpected gift today. If it’s someone you know, consider that person’s

hot buttons* when thinking of what to give them. Remember: your gift doesn’t need to cost

anything.
