• Program Supervisor for SS and International Education and World Languages. Teacher 9 years NY. Standardized, high stake exam didn't like.
CLASSROOM BASED ASSESSMENTS
• one Classroom-based Assessment per course 3rd grade-high school
• would like districts to adopt the state scope and sequence and/since there is a Classroom Based Assessment for each course
• NY the teachers grade their own high stakes assessments and use sampling to prove
• trying to get 55 non-profit organizations to connect to the CBAs and the state scope and sequence
• OSPI social studies looking to make the social studies programs a more important, funded part of the state accountability system
• civics has strong support among legislators and may be a focus as this moves ahead
• 100 Question Citizenship Test
• Priority is funding for teacher inservice to learn to score the classroom assessments, connect to classroom curriculum... (2 days of work during the summer to work on this project)

• opportunities to use the "project approach" in SS that is used in mathematics
• if you want a math person hire an Asian student; a organized person a European student; a problem solver with multiple solutions an American...based on the weakness of our system where the learning is not sequential and thoroughly organized
