• Danny Haren, Athletics: Expect 25-year-old to improve on solid first season with Oakland, when he had a 2.63 ERA while striking out 59 and walking 14 over his final 12 starts.

• John Lackey, Angels: Pretty dominant 2005 after rough April. The 27-year-old's losses are likely to go up since he had just five last season, but the Angels' offense and stellar bullpen could lift him from 14 wins to 18 or more.

• Brett Myers, Phillies: 25-year-old is widely undervalued despite 206-to-68 strikeouts-to-walks ratio last season. He's only going to get better.

• Scott Kazmir, Devil Rays: What were the Mets thinking when they traded this guy? Power hurler will be dominant if he walks fewer than the 100 he had last season, the 22-year-old's first full major-league campaign.

• Matt Cain, Giants: Another young guy (21) who needs to develop better command. Still, he had a 2.33 ERA and 0.93 WHIP while allowing just 24 hits in 46-1/3 innings over his seven 2005 starts.

• Doug Davis, Brewers: Mr. Durable has made 69 starts over the past two seasons and pitched well enough last year to win more games than the 11 he ended up with. Milwaukee will score more this season, so expect 16 wins or more.

• Kelvim Escobar, Angels: Was strong in relief after elbow problems last season, and now he brings his electric stuff back to the rotation.

• Daniel Cabrera, Orioles: New pitching coach Leo Mazzone should be able to get 25-year-old strikeout master to improve his control.

• Chris Young, Padres: Ex-Ranger goes from the best hitters' park to the best pitchers' park. He was solid last season before the Texas heat wore him down. Here's predicting he flourishes in the best climate this country has to offer.
