Brunswick Junior High

Mission Statement

“Working together to provide an equitable, rigorous, & personalized education.”

Recognizing that our students have a right to an equitable, rigorous, and personalized education, it is our shared responsibility to promote the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of each student. In so doing, we will encourage a sense of responsibility, community, individuality, and independence as students pursue academic excellence in preparation for their transition to Brunswick High School.

To this end we will:

Ø Work together as we strive for excellence in academics, the arts, and personal health.

Ø Engage our students in experiential learning and help develop a life-long interest in learning.

Ø Achieve a sense of emotional and physical well-being for all in a safe and caring environment that exhibits respect for both our differences and our common needs.

Ø Help our students gain a sense of personal and community responsibility.

Ø Involve the parents and guardians of our students as well as other members of our community in the life of the school.

Ø Regularly examine our teaching practices, student achievement, and organizational structure in order to make any necessary changes that will allow us to improve the learning opportunities for our students.

Equitable: We provide students with what they need, by educating them at their academic and intellectual ability level. We believe that one size does not fit all.

Rigorous: BJHS is dedicated to academic excellence as guided by our faculty and the Maine Learning Results. Each student needs to strive to meet or exceed the standards as detailed in the Learning Results.

Personalized: We must strive to ensure that each student develops a positive connection with his/her group and at least some adults and peers in the school.

Experiential: We need to create some meaningful, real-life learning experiences for children. Many of our students learn best by “doing”.
