1.  Engagement vs. Motivation

Motivation is internal and engagement can be observed from outside.

Essential Question:  

Do we care if a student is motivated if they are engaged?


2.  Things to Look For

1. Body language (appear to be paying attention)  eye contact, facing the action, facial expressions, sleeping?
2. Students ask clarifying questions (how many unrequested clarifying questions are asked?)
3. Offer to participate when requested (raise hand)
4. Quick Response to teacher requests  (how long does it take?)
5. On-task behavior (% students)  talking to someone else, working on other work
6. Percentage of task completion
