Imagined Conversations
In groups of two or three, it is your assignment to write an imagined conversation. What’s that, you ask? Basically, an imagined conversation is one that does not take place within the book, but we know that a conversation of some kind has taken place (we just never saw it). The following are the requirements for this assignment:
· You will be in groups of 2 or 3 for this assignment. No more than 3 per group!!!
· Your conversation must be at least 2-3 minutes long, so you should have a few pages worth of conversation. You will be performing this in front of the rest of the class before the end of the period. An unacceptable conversation will be one like this: “Hi John!” “Hey. How are you?” “I’m okay. Guess I’d better run. See you later” “Sure, see you later Marco” (notice that this conversation goes NOWHERE and does not deal with the book. You have to say what you really think the characters were talking about. Remember, it also has to be long enough for you not to be embarrassed…you don’t want a ten second conversation). Also, you must use appropriate language…not what I hear in the hallway.
· Your conversation may only include characters from the book, you may not bring in any axe-murderers or the like (basically, if they are not in the book, you can’t use them!).
· You must stay true to the characters that you are portraying. That means, you can’t make Marco a sweet and sincere guy. We all know he’s not like that; he’s portrayed as the “typical jock” that is, he brags a lot and thinks he is above everyone else.
The imagined conversation ideas that you may use are:
Ø Suzy, Lisa, and Lauren after they visited Izzy in the hospital.
Ø Rosamunde and her mother, after they visited Izzy.
Ø Jack and Joel, as they drive home to visit Izzy.
Ø Marco and Suzy at school, after the accident.
Ø Marco, Tony Marcel, and another person (your choice: Deborah or John Wintersize).
Ø Izzy’s mom, dad, and Francie, before Izzy is discharged from the hospital.
Ø Mr. DePonte, Rosamunde, and Suzy at school.
Ø Tony Marcel and Deborah.
Ø Izzy’s mom and dad, after meeting Rosamunde.
Ø Francie talking to a friend or two (at school) about her new troubles at home (maybe Wendy, who is having a birthday party soon).
Ø Marco talking to friends (probably members of the football team).
Ø Another one that you come up with (okay it with me first).
You will have at least 20 minutes or so (probably more) to work on this assignment. Please ask any questions for things that you really don’t understand. If you need help, I’ll help. You will need to perform this in front of the rest of us, so please pick the part that you want. You will need to turn in your completed, written conversations to me, before you leave.
