Superintendents and Millionaires

"The Alliance for Education needs transformation. The district has a well-staffed, well-paid fund-raising arm, yet Manhas is having to cozy up to millionaires when he should be concentrating on running the schools."

Wait! This is an important part of a big district superintendent. The Alliance provides additional funds that the district is now dependent on. This is the area that Dr. Forys is really focusing on. In her opinion, it is critical for superintendents to work toward alternative funding sources such as real estate revenue, community/business partnerships etc... to reduce district's reliance on state funds that can disappear for so many political reasons. Superintendents manage large, complicated, multi-million dollar budgets that serve thousands of students. Manhas needs to continue to support a "well-staffed, well-paid fund-raising arm" in order to serve Seattle students better.
